Before Intravenous Anesthesia Sedation

1. Do not eat or drink anything for 8 hours prior to your appointment. This includes coffee and water. It is dangerous to have anything in your stomach during the procedure. If you eat or drink anything prior to your appointment, your appointment will be cancelled.
2. You must bring an adult escort who will be in our office at all times during your appointment. This person may not leave for any reason. This person must also drive you home. There is never any deviation from this policy.
3. Contact lenses, jewelry, and dentures must be removed prior to surgery.
4. Please wear loose, comfortable clothing.
5. Please wear short sleeves.
6. Clothing may become soiled with blood. Please do not wear your favorite shirt.
7. If you take medication, you may take it with a very small sip of water at least 2 hours prior to the procedure.
8. When you brush your teeth the morning of the surgery, do not swallow any water.
9. If you use an inhaler, please bring it with you.
10. If you take insulin, please take only half (or less) of your normal dose.
11. The environment during surgeries is that of a surgery center. The patient is the only one allowed in the surgery area. Also, most surgery centers have patients report at least 1½ to 2 hours ahead of schedule. We only ask that you report at least 30 minutes ahead of schedule, but we may call and ask you to report sooner. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated. If your schedule is not flexible for the day of surgery, please let us know at the time you schedule the surgery so we can put you in a slot that is less likely to have a schedule change.
12. If you must reschedule, please give at least 24 hours notice.
